Once we started identifying the Body Parts of Guitar, their
need and functionality then we can further learn to play Guitar and it also
help us in the maintenance of Guitar.
In my view before starting anything you
should gather all related information and at least have basic understanding
about that thing.
If you can’t explain to your friend or follower what is a
Fretboard or tuning keys, they most probably won’t take you as a responsible
Guitarist.
Let’s have basic categorization of Parts of Guitar,
1.
Guitar Head/ Headstock
2.
Tuning Keys/ Tuners
3.
Nut
4.
Frets
5.
Fret Board/ Finger Board
6.
Sound Hole
7.

8.

9. Body
NECK:
Neck consists of Guitar Headstock/ Head, tuning keys/
tuners, Fretboard/ fingerboard.
The Guitar Neck |
FRETBOARD/ FINGERBOARD:
The area of neck which holds multiple frets and Strings
together. Where we are positioning our fretting fingers to play different
notes, Chords and also could perform tapping. Below image refers to the actual raw view of Guitar Fingerboad go give you a clear and exact picture.
The Guitar FretBoard |
FRETS:
Frets are separated by thick metal wire throughout the
Fingerboard. Fret is the place where we
are pressing our finger on string against fingerboard to play any specific
chord. Every Fret has 6 places to play divided among 6 strings.
Frets |
TUNING KEYS:
Guitar Tuning Keys also know as Pegs or Pegheads.
The main function
of Tuning keys is to keep your Guitar tuned.
The Tuning Keys - Tuner and a Vital part of Guitar |
Remember that manual intervention is required to tune the guitar by
twisting these pegs clockwise and Anti clockwise.
Clockwise to tighten the String which in turn gradually
increase the level of Pitch of String. Anti clockwise to loosen the String
which will lower down the level of pitch.
The basic requirement to twist these
keys clockwise or anticlockwise is to Tune the Guitar.
THE NUT:
Position of Nut is just in between your Fingerboard and
HeadStock we can say where Headstock joins the Neck and where separate slot is
available for each String.
The Nut |
Although the strings are coupled into Pegs but
finally it is the duty of NUT to give strings direction. Main function of NUT
is to position all six strings in the Guitar which in turn distribute the space
equally among all strings.
Guitar Body:
It’s a big curvy part which consists of Sound Hole, Bridge
and Saddle. This is the part which rests against our body and where we actually
perform strumming.
Guitar Body |
BRIDGE:
Placed in Guitar body at another end point where string ends.
The Bridge |
Bridge actually mounted on Guitar body to give support to the String and to
transfer string vibration to the Guitar body to amplify it further.
SADDLE:
Saddle works same as Nut which is to hold and manage the
space between each String.
Only difference is Nuts are available at the top of
guitar (Near Headstock) however Saddle is positioned at the bottom of the
Guitar.
That is how a Guitar is divided into multiple sections and
each part is having its own functionality which is amazing.
Hope this post helps you to understand the exact
functionality of each part and you’ll use this information further.

Happy 'Parts of Guitar' Learning!!!
