Guitar Chords:



Guitar Chords is an arrangement of two or more different notes played simultaneously on guitar. We are using some customized Titles just to give you more appropriate information, I hope these are easy to understand.



Guitar Chords Name:



Guitar Chords names are formed based on included Guitar Notes. Look at the points below,

A.      Guitar Chords A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

B.      Guitar Chords Sharp or Flat : In between above mentioned Guitar Chords there are Sharp and Flat Guitar Notes are available hence Sharp Guitar Chords and Flat Guitar Chords are situated in between these. Sharp Guitar Chords have suffix ‘#’ and Flat Chords includes suffix ‘b’. e.g. A# or Bb, C# or Db, D# or Eb, F# or Gb, G# or Ab.

·         Suffix # is used for Sharp Guitar Chords. E.e G# is G sharp.

·         Suffix b is used for Flat Guitar Chords. E.g. Gb is G Flat.

·         # and b are holding positions in between Clear name Guitar Chords. Follow the Notes and Guitar Chords position in the picture below.

·         Whenever any Sharp ‘#’ is existing there must be Flat ‘b’ available in the same position.

Here, A# and Bb is same Note so their relevant Guitar chords are also be the same. E.g. A# Chord is same as Bb Chord. We will look at the couple of # and b pattern at the end of post.

Guitar Chords types are majorly divided into two parts:

1.       Guitar Chords Nature.

2.       Guitar Chords build or formation.


1. Guitar Chords Nature:



Guitar Chords Nature is been separated into two parts,

·         Guitar Major Chords

·         Guitar Minor Chords

Both type of Guitar Chords are having their own importance and have different formula to get the Guitar chords Pattern. Yes, there is a formula existing to find the Notes of any Major and minor Guitar chords.


2. Guitar Chords build:



This is further categorized in many Guitar Chords types,

·         Open Guitar Chords

·         Barre Guitar Chords

·         Power chord or Guitar Chords - 5

·         Suspended Guitar Chords (sus2 and sus4 Guitar Chords)

·         Guitar Chords with suffix 7.



Guitar Chords | Nature



Both Major Guitar Chords and Minor Guitar Chords for the same Chord have different pattern and shapes. As Guitar Chords formula to built Major Chord and Minor Chords are different.

Guitar Chords formula tells us the next Note to pick or you can say the sequential series of Notes to pick Guitar Chords pattern.

·         Guitar chords major chord are also known as Happy chords since they gives us happy feeling when played.

·         Guitar chords minor chord gives us sad feeling when played.

We will share Guitar Chords shapes for major and Minor Chords at the time of discussing Open Guitar Chords and next section to have more clarity.



Guitar Chords | Formation



Guitar Chords differ by formation or Build. Well, Guitar chords are building of combining multiple Notes and there different Guitar Chords are formed when we have made change on any particular Note position or if we replace the note by some other Note in a particular position within any Chord depending upon the Formula to build or form particular type of Guitar Chords.



1. Guitar Chords | Open Chord:



Guitar Chords Open is the Open Positioned guitar chords that include one or more strings which are not fingered. In an open chord a fingered string will be partially damped and produce Guitar chords sound however the un-fingered strings are un-damped so un-fingered string vibrates freely.

These Guitar chords have both major and minor. To symbolize major chord we don’t need to use any suffix whereas for minor we are using ‘m’ suffix. E.g. A Chord is A chord and Am is A minor Chord.
Some good examples of Guitar Chords Open chords are A, C, E and F Guitar Chords.

2. Guitar Chords Barre:



These Guitar Chords have barre (Bar). Barre is basically the activity of index finger on fretboard to lock all the 6 strings on particular fret.

Rest 3 fingers are placed as open chords only but due to barre all open strings which are not pressed and played open in open chords are pressed here in Barre chord on that particular fret.

Barre gives us control over the time duration of existence of generated sound and muting effect of Guitar Chords. These Guitar Chords are also have major and minor chords.

3. Guitar Chords - 5 | Power Chord:



Power Guitar Chords are generally known as Two Note Chord pattern, first Note is the Root Note which decides the name of the Guitar Chords and Second Note is the Fifth Note in the Scale. Due to this 5th Note Power Chord is symbolized as ‘5’. 

E.g. B Power chord is B5 & C power Chord is C5. In B5, B tells us the name of the Power Chord and 5 tells us that this is a Power Chord.

Also, We can called Power Chord as Three Note Chord which includes Root Note as the first Note and this Root Note will decides the Name of the Power Chord, Second Note is the Fifth Note in the Scale however the Third Note is the same Note but 1 Octave Higher.

3. Guitar Chords | Suspended:



Suspended Guitar Chords are basically to give different flavor to the songs and it is majorly used in Pop music.

Majorly there are 2 types of suspended Guitar chords existing,

·         Sus2

·         Sus4

Gsus4 Chord is G Suspended 4 Chord.

Basically any major chord is a combination of Root Note, 3rd Note and the 5th Note. In order to play Sus2 chord you need to replace the middle 3rd note with the 2nd Note. However to play sus4 you need to replace the 3rd note with the 4th Note.

Let’s take up an example of C Chord and try to find the Csus4 Chord notes quickly. First write down the Note series starting from C i.e. C D E F G A B C.

Root note is C, 4th Note is F and 5th Note is G. So Csus4 should consist of C, F and G Notes.

4. Guitar Chords 7:



Guitar Chords 7 are majorly used to play Blues and folk music.

Guitar Chords 7 sound Blue just like major chords are Happy chords. These Chords have both major and minor and are quite easy to play.

We will pick Guitar chords 7 at random as D7, F7, G7, Gm7 (Here Gm7 is G minor 7 and all others are major 7).

Guitar Chords (Sharp or Flat)



Guitar Chords Sharp (#) and Flat (b) are positioned in between clear Chords specially in case of Barre Chords. If we keep the Note position intact and move the shape one fret higher then we can play the next Barre Chord. Check the representation of Notes and Guitar Chords in figure below,

Note, there is no B# and E# Guitar chords exists.
